The Holiday Weekend Before the Holiday Weekend
Not-quite-national holidays Dual Day and Summit Beer Day brought Upstate New Yorkers out into nature over this past scorcher of a weekend.
When you think about it, every holiday is made up. Someone somewhere decided there would be a Christmas to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, a Thanksgiving to give thanks for a bountiful harvest (among other things), and a Memorial Day to honor those who lost their lives fighting for America. And so, while this past weekend’s “holidays” may not be recognized as national holidays warranting mandated time off from work (yet), that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re any less real than say, Easter, a day that for many is dedicated to receiving candy-filled eggs from a giant, imaginary bunny rabbit. And, for the outdoorsiest Upstate New Yorkers among us, Dual Day and Summit Beer Day are a heck of a lot more fun, anyway.
