Sneak Peek: The Foundation Experience
Lifting the curtain on the Saratoga fundraiser you know nothing about.
Several weeks ago, 400 unmarked, black envelopes sealed with red wax were mailed out or dropped off at businesses around Saratoga Springs. Inside was an invitation to a mysterious October 12 event put on by “The Foundation,” and a website. Who sent them? No one knew for sure.
“A lot of people who got the invitations were all atwitter,” says Spencer Sherry, the man who sent them. (You may know him as the creator of the short film The Monkey.) “It frustrated a lot of people. I left an email address on the website and a bunch of people emailed me like, ‘What is this?! Why would I give money to this? What’s happening?’ It was great, because if they really didn’t care, they wouldn’t email me—they’d throw out the invitation. It caused all of the different types of buzz in the best way. I wanted to do something that really got people talking, and it seemed to work.”
But there was one woman—Dana Nemec of Charlton’s Main Street Studio—who wasn’t fooled.
