On Deck: Kicking Off the New Year
A comedy show, Skidmore hockey and more ways to ring in 2024 in Saratoga.
Wednesday, January 3
If you missed last month’s release party for Erin Harkes’ YouTube special and comedy album, you can catch the next installment in the comedian’s Women Aren’t Funny series at UPH this Wednesday. This month’s show will feature NYC-based comedian Casey Balsham, whose debut album “Son of a Barb” hit No. 1 on the iTunes charts. The show begins at 7:30pm and tickets are $18 in advance or $25 on the day of the show.
Thursday, January 4
This Thursday’s Caffè Lena show features good music for a good cause. NYC-based Clarinetist Evan Christopher will bring the sounds of New Orleans to Saratoga’s historic coffeehouse in an effort to raise money to supply musical instruments to schools and small businesses in Haiti. In addition to the music that The Observer called “a triumph” that joins “the present seamlessly to a glorious past,” Horns for Haiti will feature food donated by Hattie’s and Nothing Bundt Cakes. Dinner will be served from 5:30-6:30 and the show begins at 7pm.
Friday, January 5
Putnam Place will kick off the weekend with what’s being called the biggest artist showcase the 518 has ever seen. MBBWRLD presents a 21+ event featuring 50 live artists, 10 local vendors, DJs and live gaming from 6pm-1am. Tickets are $20 if you buy before the end of the day tomorrow, or $30 on the day of the event.
This Friday, cheer for the home team as the Skidmore men’s hockey team takes the ice at the Saratoga City Rink on Weibel Ave. The Thoroughbreds have had a historic start to the season, remaining undefeated in their conference until they suffered a loss against Geneseo on the road last month. After a few weeks off from games, they’re ready to take on Hobart at home at 7pm on Friday, and then Elmira at 4pm on Saturday.
Saturday, January 6
This Saturday, The Hideaway will host a screening of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and dance party for all those Swifties who want to shake it off. The bad news? Ticket sales went all too well, and sold out early. The good news? Sister restaurant Hills & Hollows, located at McGregor Links Country Club, is hosting the same event next month. Get your tickets now for an evening of themed food and cocktails, friendship bracelets and Taylor trivia, coming to Hills & Hollows on February 3. Tickets are $30.
