Journalism in Challenging Times: On Wednesday at 7pm, Caffè Lena will host veteran New York journalist Rex Smith for a vital conversation about the crisis facing local news. Proceeds will support New York Focus, a nonprofit newsroom that is dedicated to uncovering how the state really works.
Thursday, January 23
Beer Dinner with Chatham Brewing: Calling all beer-lovers! On Thursday, The Hideaway will host a six-course paired beer dinner featuring fare by Chef Casey and libations from Chatham Brewing. Tickets are $55.
Friday, January 24
DIY S’mores Night: This Friday from 7-9pm, Broadway Coffee Co. will host the ultimate date night: s’more making. Roast marshmallows and create your own gourmet treats using toppings including caramel, peanut butter cups, and fresh fruit. Tickets are $40 for two people.
ChowderTEST: You’ve heard of Chowderfest, but have you ever heard of ChowderTEST? In preparation for the soup-soaked, county-wide festival that’s returning to the area on February 8, Thirsty Owl will showcase three chowders from January 24-29. Stop by to try all three (chicken chipotle chowder, seafood chowder, and andouille sausage chowder) and cast your vote for which one you’d like to see served on actual Chowderfest.

Bayou Kitchen: On Saturday, James Beard Award–winning chef Melissa Martin will tell stories and share tastes from her new book, Bayou: Feasting Through the Seasons of a Cajun Life, at SPAC. Enjoy cocktails and appetizers, including black-eyed pea soup; family-style dishes, including chicken and smoked sausage gumbo; a conversation between Chef Melissa and WAMC’s Joe Donahue; and red velvet cake for dessert.
New York Fitness & Wellness Expo: Kick off the new year on the right foot at the New York Fitness & Wellness Expo, coming to Impact Athletic Center in Clifton Park this Saturday. Connect with top fitness expert, shop the latest products and services, watch fitness contests, and have a chance to win prizes. Tickets are $10.
The Dave Matthews Tribute Band: DMB won’t return to SPAC for another few months, but you can hear all the beloved band’s top songs live at Putnam Place this Saturday at 9pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the show.
