If you’re looking for a family outing this week, head to the Saratoga Farmers’ Market at High Rock Park for opening day of the 8th season of POP Club, a 12-week program for kids ages 5-12 that involves cooking demonstrations, scavenger hunts and crafts at the Market on Wednesdays from 3-6pm. (Kids also receive a $2 POP that can be used to purchase fruits and vegetables at the market, as well as a POP passport for collecting stamps on each visit.) This Wednesday, a free performance of Opera Saratoga’s The Selfish Giant will go from 3:30–4:15pm p.m.
Thursday June 22
Beloved local band The McKrells will bring its Irish/bluegrass sound to The Parting Glass this Thursday beginning at 7pm. Led by Kevin McKrell, the band lineup of many longtime Saratoga musicians includes Peter Pashoukos, Brian Melick and Frank Orsini. The McKrells, which has performed in venues across New York and the country, always ends up returning to the Parting Glass. See them in one of their favorite venues this week for $15.
Friday June 23
Support a good cause at The Red, White and Blue Party this Friday on the Prime at Saratoga National Golf Club patio. This fundraising event hosts professional and philanthropic leaders in support of the American Cancer Society and its mission to support patients and patients’ families in the battle against cancer through advocacy and research. The evening will honor New York State trooper Mike Painter and Broadview FCU’s Mark Duffy. The all-American themed event will go from 7–11pm and will have an open bar, a gourmet barbecue, games and live music from The New York Players. Tickets and sponsorships are available to purchase online.
Saturday June 24
The all new Booze-A-Palooza takes place Saturday afternoon from 2-5pm at the Saratoga Fairgrounds. The Beer Garden will feature more than 20 varieties of beer, and the Wine Cellar will have 10-12 different styles of wine to offer. Seltzer and cider will also be available, and VIP tickets include special access to the Champagne Courtyard. Grab a general admission ticket before Saturday for $57.49 or a VIP one for $80.12. (Ticket prices go up the day of the event!)
And we’d be remiss not to mention the Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival going on this Saturday and Sunday at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The 46th annual event features 21 artists on two stages. Attendees can also expect a fine arts and crafts fair, artist CD signings and a diverse food selection. Gates open at 10am and the first performance begins at 11am. Tickets are available online here.
Sunday June 25
High Rock Park makes the calendar a second time this week, as the location for the annual Saratoga Pride Festival. The celebration will feature live music, snacks, local businesses and nonprofit organizations, raffle prizes and other fun entertainment and activities. A new addition to this year’s festival is the Pride Bike Parade. Kids can bring their bike, scooter, stroller or anything else with wheels to Flat Rock Park to mark the start of the event as they parade down the sidewalk. The Saratoga Pride Festival takes place from 2-5pm.
