It's officially gala season, Saratoga! Tonight, Skidmore College’s Palamountain Benefit returns to the Surrey-Williamson Inn on North Broadway for its 45th year. Proceeds from the event go to the Joseph C. and Anne T. Palamountain Scholarship Fund, which provides support for students who might not be able to attend Skidmore because of financial need. And, yes, it’s also concert season! This week brings with it a full lineup of shows at SPAC, kicking off with Third Eye Blind on the Broadview Stage tonight. Channel your inner ’90s kid and rock out to songs inluding “Semi-Charmed Life” and “Jumper,” plus favorites from special guests Yellowcard and A R I Z O N A.
Wednesday, July 17
Saratoga’s social scene brings a similar lineup of events on Wednesday. From 6-9pm, Pitney Meadows Community Farm will present its annual Fire Feast, at which local chefs prepare must-try dishes from farm-fresh produce and locally sourced meats over an open fire pit. Participating chefs include Alex Lempka of Hamlet & Ghost, Mark Delos of Franklin Square Market, Leigh Rathner and Cindy Rosenberg of Night Work Bread, private chef Michael Blake and more.
At SPAC, RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles will take the stage to present its Musical Mystery Tour with special guest Sgt. Pepper. Billed as a mind-blowing live performance that takes a journey back in time, RAIN is widely considered the next best thing to seeing The Beatles.
Thursday, July 18
Thursday’s gala offering is An Unbridled Affair, an annual fundraiser for CAPTAIN Community Human Services, which will be held at Prime at Saratoga National beginning at 6pm. Emceed by Spectrum News’ Dan Bazile, the evening will honor Jeff and Kara Haraden of Mohawk Honda for their dedication to CAPTAIN’s cause—particularly its Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter—as well as Thoroughbred Cody’s Wish. Expect world-class cuisine and entertainment by J Yager and Chris Dollard.
Meanwhile, SPAC will play host to Dierks Bentley’s Gravel & Gold Tour, at which the country star will be joined by Chase Rice and Mae Estes. It’ll be almost as good as getting drunk on a plane.
Friday, July 19
Friday will deviate from Saratoga’s regularly scheduled gala/SPAC concert programming for giveaway day No. 1 at Saratoga Race Course. Get to the track early—attendees will get a free, commemorative Saratoga Race Course tumbler while supplies last.
It may not be at SPAC, but live music fans can get their fix at the Dock Brown’s, where The Dave Matthews Tribute Band will be taking the Beach Bar stage on Friday at 7pm.
Saturday, July 20
The Tang Teaching Museum is opening its doors to the community this Saturday for the annual Frances Day, a tribute to the founder of the museum. The afternoon event will feature art, art-making, food, music and more. Stop by anytime between 2 and 5pm to view current exhibitions, make a variety of crafts and draw with sidewalk chalk, and see the schedule of events for timed activities including tours, live performances and more.
On Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, the world’s best magician will be performing here in Saratoga. That’s right—Simon Coronel, winner of the Olympics of Magic and two-time fooler of Penn and Teller, will perform his Glitches in Reality show, a one-of-a-kind experience that blends theater and magic, at Universal Preservation Hall. If you’re one of the people who’ll be channeling their inner ’90s kid tonight at Third Eye Blind, there’s a good chance you’ll have a kick-ass time at The Saratoga Winery’s ’90s Brunch going on Sunday from 9am-4pm. DJ Eric Whin will be spinning the hottest hits of the era, and customers are encouraged to come in their wildest ’90s getup. Reservations are recommended.
Bark Brew & Tattoo is a Glens Falls–based nonprofit dedicated to ending the negative stigma attached to Bully breed dogs such as Pit Bulls, Staffordshire Terriers and Bulldogs that educates the public about responsible dog ownership. The organization’s main event of the year, coming to the Saratoga Springs City Center this Sunday from noon-6pm, features professional live tattooing, craft breweries, small business vendors, entertainment, food, demos and Bark Brew & Tattoo’s beneficiary rescue shelters. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to attend.
