Opinion: October 30, October 31 and November 1 are the best days of the year to be on Instagram.
These are the days that make following that girl you haven’t talked to since high school 100% worth it. From November 2-October 29 she exclusively posts boomerangs of her cheers-ing with various cocktails (we get it, you drink), screenshots of text posts from other social media platforms, and photos of random buildings from weird angles because she’s ~artsy~, but come Halloween, all is redeemed when she comes through with a pic of her killer costume—or better yet, her baby’s costume—posted to her actual feed, not her Story. (We didn’t even know people still did that!)
Anyway, to cheer ourselves up on this November 2, a day that’s even more of a buzzkill than December 26, we’re taking a look back at the best of Saratoga’s 2021 Halloweekend Insta scene.
Darla the head-geared, fish murderer from Finding Nemo. (The bag of wine is a nice touch.)
Full disclosure—a member of the Saratoga Living team did in fact go to high school with Morgan, but she does not fit into the aforementioned “girl-you-haven’t-talked-to-since-high-school-and-posts-lame-content-364-days-a-year” category.
Actually, speaking of Finding Nemo, one of the reasons we loved this year’s costumes so much is because everyone seemed to dive deep (pun intented) into the almost-forgotten treasure trove of ’90s-kid classics. Who wasn’t traumatized by the words “WHY. ARE. YOU. SLEEPING?” This year we saw Kim Possibles out in full force, Shrek-and-Fiona couples costumes, Super Troopers super trooping, Edna Mode sharing her life-saving “No capes!” message, and, our personal favorite, Lindsay Lohan in the detention scene from Freaky Friday—clipboard around the neck and all. If all those ’90s kids had posted pictures to their FEED and not their STORY, we’d share them with you. But they didn’t. And they’re gone forever.
When you’re on a mission to #FreeBrittany, though, nothing less than a real, there-for-the-rest-of-time post will do.
And the same obviously goes for the plastic-tastic mom from Mean Girls:
Another trend we are absolutely HERE FOR is full-family themed costumes, specifically for the adorable baby costumes. Here are a few of our faves.
PAW Patrollers reporting for duty:
Any time is bath time:
Do you want to build a snowman?
And this one that’s just too amazing not to share:
Lastly, we leave you with this baby, who wins Halloween not only for paying tribute to the Harry Potter series without the overdone cape/wand/glasses/scarf/lightning bolt scar, but also for taking on the lesser known role of the deadly, shrieking mandrake plant, and playing it absolutely perfectly.
(According to the Mandrake baby’s mother, no children were harmed in the capturing of this photo.)
